"What kind
of splits should I run?"

a good time for me in a 5.67 mile uphill race?"
Because this is
a uphill mountain race many runners do not have any idea what
time to shoot for in this race. The
following chart may help. The chart
has been revised slightly from prior years.
The predicted race times now employ a sliding scale percentage ranging
from 17% to 23% slower than your normal 10 KM time.
This makes the top and bottom of the chart more accurate.
The splits listed
with the times reflect the fact that the miles in the PMRR are quite variable;
the first and third miles are relatively flat while the second, fourth, and
fifth miles are nearly all uphill. Even splits would be nearly impossible
to achieve in a race of this nature. The
proportions calculated come from actual splits taken from the race's first
three years.
Note: These values can only estimate an average
time. Some runners who are especially
strong on hills may have a faster time and others might be slower. Enjoy
