President's Message...

Have you ever heard the adage, "If you want to get something done, ask a busy person."? Well Heidi Underwood is sure a busy person. She is a wife, mother of two, speech therapist, Ironman, Boston qualifier, recent club vice president, Prospect Mountain race director and expert Time Tech race timer. We probably couldn't have found a busier person when we asked her to be editor of the Rundown a few years back. But even with all of that going on, she agreed to take the responsibility of getting this Rundown newsletter to you every month on time and complete.

Regrettably this is scheduled to be Heidi's last issue as editor. She is turning over her duties to Chad Quirion. On behalf of the club I want to thank Heidi. We will miss her witty captions, insightful articles and creative input. She promises to guide Chad through his initial issues, so we expect this transition to go smoothly. (Please note the new e-mail address for items to be placed in the January issue.) Little did Chad realize what he was getting himself into when back in June on Whiteface Mountain he introduced himself to me. Good luck, Chad, and Heidi's husband Bob, who might now eat something besides toasted cheese sandwiches for dinner, thanks you as well.

Congratulations are in order for race directors Amy Hoffer and Christine Cifone-Cholosey. The Goblin Gallop had fair weather, an interesting new course and plenty of intriguing costumes. A record amount was raised for our scholarship fund. Thank you Chris and Amy for your hard work. And thanks also to Shirley Venner for taking charge of the Halloween Hop fun run. It was a great event for the whole family.

The AB Challenge held near Sunnyside on November 1st proved to be an exciting relay race event. E. John Loucks did a spectacular job finding a cozy venue to hold the competition. The food was delicious thanks to Chef Deke (Pederson that is). There was a large turn out of Adirondack Runners. Batten Kill left that morning thinking they had regained the cup, only to be informed later that there had been an error in the scoring. Jack Quinn graciously returned the cup to the club, vowing to get it back next November when the two clubs will go head to head again, this time on Batten Kill turf. The score now stands 2 to 2.

Bill Parks has been working hard over in Coles Woods to clear a new trail on some recently acquired property. Some of us went over to lend a hand this past month. The trail will have a couple good hills and soon, thanks to Dan Pollock and his scout troop, some new bridges as well. If you are running or skiing over on the trails, check out the progress.

I want to close by reminding you to get those reservations in for the Christmas party. And if you have any suggestions for Phil, pass them along via e-mail. Also, if you haven't visited our website lately, check out all of the pictures Brian Teague has contributed. You may just find a few good ones of yourself. Gen May, our webmaster, updates it regularly and does a fantastic job.

Deke and I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. See you at the Christmas party, and at First Night in Saratoga I hope. What healthier way to ring in the New Year.!
