President's Message...

We are back from Boston. It was quite an experience for a first timer! I feel a need to thank everyone in the Adirondack Runners for their support and companionship. Without the club I would not have reached my goal, nor had as much fun in the process.

Congratulations to Pete DelSignore. It was a tough day for racing, but he completed the Boston Marathon and raised over $2000 for his charities. Mark Regan overcame a hamstring pull and a pre race week of no running to put his name in the record books of Boston as well. Dan Larson continued his incredible Boston Marathon running streak finishing race number thirty something in a row! And with a 3:17:38 finishing time, he is not slowing down! Dan Olden, Gen May, Candi Schermerhorn and Chet Tumidajewicz were also among the finishers this year. And, on the 11:00 local Boston News Monday evening, I caught an interview with club member Regina Tumidajewicz nearing the end of her Boston run. She was feeling good and confident that she would soon be finishing her 34th marathon at age 76

I am now looking ahead to the spring racing season with some new races and many old favorites happening in May. The Sawyer's Neighbors Helping Neighbors run taking place May 4th will be a one time 5K event to benefit the Glens Falls Hospital. Club member Dan Olden is a principal organizer and I hope that our readers will be out there supporting this race. Dan Hall and Deana Endeveri are also hoping for a big turn out on Memorial Day for the inaugural run of the Memorial Mile starting in downtown Glens Falls and ending at the monuments in Crandall Park. And of course I hope to see everyone out for our Grand Prix races, the Granville Lioness Club 5K, May 3rd, and the Prospect Mountain 5.67 mile only one hill race May 10th.

The biannual clean up of Glenwood Avenue went off as planned on April 19th. Jim Werthmuller stepped in for Dave Harrington to pass out bags, gloves vests and hard hats. The DelSignore family pitched in to help this year as did Jim Goodspeed. In case you missed it this spring, we will be cleaning up again in October.

Joanne LaLonde will be taking over for Joanne Conley in the merchandise sales position. It is great to see new faces taking on volunteer positions. Our thanks go out to Joanne C. for all of her hard work these past few years. If there are any other readers out there itching to help out, just give someone on the executive board a call. There are plenty of jobs to go around!

May also brings the Pederson's annual Strawberry Crepes and more breakfast run. This year it is Sunday, May 19th. Luckily, my daughter, Erin, will have finished her spring semester at Saint Rose and will be on hand to help her sister, Brie, with the cooking. If I am not mistaken, E. John Loucks will be taking the reservations for post run massages that will be offered to the lucky few who reserve early. .I am praying for nice weather so we can enjoy the deck in some sunshine.

I'll see you at one of the May running events I hope. Enjoy the spring weather.

Jill Pederson
