Presidential Thoughts...

Christine Clohosey recently sent me an e-mail with a quote that went something like this, "Don't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands, you need to be able to throw something back."

I have been a member of the Adirondack Runners for about ten years now, I have taken advantage of the breakfast runs, the social runs (my favorite), the races, the Rundown articles and results, the picnics, the parties and of course the great friendships I have made through running. I guess it's my turn now to "throw something back". Though I do not deem myself worthy to be called your President, I will do my best to live up to the standards put forth by my predecessors.

For those Rundown readers who don't know me, I am a third grade teacher at Johnsburg Central School who took up running in her forties for a little stress relief. After joining the club, I was hooked. I have hosted breakfast runs, helped out at packing parties, and been a split timer, but this year I got a taste of just how much work goes into a racing event. I headed the water stop committee for the Distance Run and handled registration for Race the Train. I have a new appreciation for race directors and committee heads. I urge any members who have been wearing two catcher's mitts to volunteer, throw something back. In fact, it is probably not too late to check with Chris or Marsha to see if they need help with the Goblin Gallop.

In closing, on behalf of the whole organization, I want to thank out going President, Dave Harrington for all that he has done and continues to do for the club. Thanks also to Marsha Spear for her dedicated work as Secretary. And lastly, Heidi Underwood, our outgoing Vice President, we all extend our appreciation for your work as VP, but also for the great job you have done and continue to do with the Rundown. Mark Regan will be continuing on as club Treasurer. He will have his work cut out for him ushering along a group of greenhorns, so thanks in advance, as I am sure we couldn't continue without you.

Good luck to all those training for fall marathons. We've had great weather for running. I hope to see you on the roads.

Jill Pederson
