Last Monday, June 10th the running world and the whole athletic community lost a tremendous athlete when Mary Peck lost her life in a bike accident. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and friends. I understand that her Dad has set up a youth scholarship in her memory. I think this a wonderful idea and The Adirondack Runners will be making a donation to this scholarship.
Mother nature really played havoc on Mount Washington the weekend of June 15th and the 16th and a lot of runners found out how hard she could be. On race day morning at the beginning of the race it was 31 degrees at the top with a wind chill of 15 degrees and freezing rain. The wind was from 48 mph to 56 mph. The race has never been canceled but this year because of the bad weather on top the race directors decided to stop the race at the halfway point at 3.8 miles. That had to be a hard decision for them to make given the quality of this race. I'm sure the runner's were very disappointed after putting in all that time and effort training for the challenge of the mountain. I know I would be. But then again there is always next year.
Mother nature did cooperate with the Mule Haul down in Fort Hunter. The Fulmont runners club lucked out for the Father's Day race. It turned out real nice just before the 8k race, and stayed nice on through the children's run and the picnic, which was great as always. But it did thunder and rain during the awards ceremony. President Jim Moore never wavered and stood his post doing a fine job giving out the awards. Thanks Jim.
We have a full race season ahead and I wish everyone good luck and good running.
Happy Running,
Dave
